Basics
People who are neurodivergent often want to communicate and integrate in social situations. The information below is a tool to help individuals and organisations better understand common communication problems.
Speak clearly and slowly
Neurodivergent individuals will often process auditory information better when someone speaks slowly and clearly.
Use intentional language
Avoid the use of similes and metaphors and when possible avoid words that can have a dual meaning.
Example
……..
Consider the current environment
Does the space you are in have excessive noise, distinct smells, a strange texture on the floor, fluorescent lighting?
Understanding common sensory triggers can aid in communication.

Empowerment
Giving someone some control of the situation or environment will often help calm anxiety.
